Most of the OFW had underwent pre-employment medical check up prior to their deployment on respective jobs abroad. This is a compulsory and required by employers and governing labor office on respective countries to checked if the person is healthy and fit to work.
The medical check up usually done 3 months or sooner date before deployment. There are specific clinics which are accredited by countries you'll be deployed to and by POEA, be sure to select the acknowledged by both.
Medical exams varies for each country but mostly the standard are Physical Exam, Psychological and Laboratory Tests. Be honest when the Doctor is asking about your medical history, this is vital information in case something might happened.
Follow these tips and should be good to go on your pre-employment medical exam
- Drink a lot of water at least a day or two before exam. It cleans your digestive system and Urinary tract.
- Eat a light meal before the exam, so you don't feel bloated and feel heavy.
- Wear comfortable clothes that can be easily undone (when doing Xray or Physical Test)
- Have enough sleep (at least 7-8 hour) before the medical exam. Lack of sleep tends to have erratic blood pressure.
- Stay away from eating food with high sodium and sugar a day or two prior to medical exam. These are potential to elevate your blood pressure.
- Refrain from taking alcoholic drinks a night before the test. It stays in the blood longer and might vary depending on your consumption and type of alcohol you intake.
- Shun drinking caffeinated beverage like coffee, tea or sodas. It cause a spike in blood pressure.
- Avoid doing stressful activity like exercising, jogging before the exam.
- Just be calm and relax when getting blood pressure taken. If nervous, blood pressure will rise can can affect a result.
- Stop smoking for at least a week or even a month prior to exam. This will help to clear your Lungs from the test. Malaysia for example is very strict, if one had been screened with a lung scar, it automatically rejects that candidate for possible employment and will never be allowed to work.
