How to Open a Bank Account in Malaysia for Foreigners

Opening a Bank Account is one of the most priority task for any foreigners here in Malaysia after getting their approve Work Permit/ Visa. Why? Of course you want to get paid of your hard work right? and pay off your debts, lol.

Before you go to your branch. Ask your HR person first what is the preferred bank for payroll. Some banks could take 1-2 days before payroll is reflected on the account.

Once you identified your bank and find a nearest branch of your choice. Please prepare these documents on hand.

1. Account opening letter (To be provided by your employer, or consulting agency if your payroll goes through with them)

2. Original Passport showing a valid Work Permit ( Bring a photocopy)

Don't forget to bring some Cash ( Depends, on what type of account and bank), I remember I brought 40RM the first I open a savings account in RHB way back in 2011.

Recommended Banks. All of them have lot of branches, ATM's and online access.

Maybank
RHB
CIMB
Public Bank
Standard Chartered

Hope this helps you, and don't forget to treat me on your first pay check. Kidding.
